Message from the Co-Chairs: May 2021

Deb Adams and Rachel West, Interim Co-Chairs | Published on 5/5/2021

ACOSA Colleagues,

Every month since the start of the year we have seen great support for macro practice and macro practice education and we have many contributions from individuals and groups to celebrate! In fact, at the ACOSA Board meeting last week, we ran out of time before we had the chance to discuss all of the wonderful work to maintain and build the role of macro practice in our educational programs and communities.

In this message, we want to highlight two particularly important accomplishments. First, the Macro Social Work Student Network (MSWSN) is building a very large email distribution list of current students who are the future of ACOSA! Thanks to all student leaders, along with Alberto Cifuentes, Jr., Tamarie Willis, and Becki Sander who have provided support for the Network. New chapters are emerging across the country and hundreds of people have attended the three webinars hosted by MSWSN this year. You are making a big difference!

In a related note, we wanted to take a moment to recognize all students who are graduating from BSW, MSW and doctoral programs this month! Whether you are having in-person or virtual graduation ceremonies, we want you to know that your ACOSA colleagues are celebrating this accomplishment with you. Your interest in macro social work is inspiring to those of us who earned our degrees some time ago, and we look to you to help lead this work in the future! Congratulations on your graduation!

The second event that we want to highlight is coming up next month. Please save the first three Thursdays in June for the Macro United virtual conference. ACOSA is sponsoring the conference with our colleagues from other national associations that advance macro practice. There will be many papers, posters, workshops, and roundtables on community practice, social policy, administrative practice, and macro social work education as well as excellent keynote speakers and networking opportunities. For more information about the Macro United conference, and how to register, see the notice below in this e-blast.

Congratulations again to all graduates!

Wishing you all a safe and fun summer,

Deb and Rachel
