JCP Call for Papers: Collaborations in Community-Engaged Research

Collaboration in Community-Engaged Research

Guest Editors: Daniel Brisson, Kirk Foster, Cheryl Hyde, Jan Ivery, and Mary Ohmer

Research collaborations between community engaged scholars and community practice partners often have an implied focus on issues that emerge from the community—rather than the academy. These collaborations face numerous challenges. One challenge is gaining the trust of community partners despite centuries of exploitive work produced by academics. Maintaining the collaboration over time presents additional challenges, as do questions concerning who “owns” the data and determines how the data are used. Emerging from this complicated process are often novel, context specific, and participatory research approaches focused on a community prioritized issue. Paper proposals are solicited that aim to highlight novel and creative methods, delineate lessons learned, identify funding strategies and challenges, explicate data analytic/meaning-making techniques, and underscore the importance of community voice.
